I have to admit that I never considered painting a pumpkin. I always grew up "carving" them. Now that we have kids, I can appreciate a few things about this new pumpkin decorating alternative. For one thing, a painted pumpkin lasts much longer than one that is carved. Basically, you don't have to worry about the rotting! Also, a kid of any age can paint, unlike carving where you have to be careful to limit it to older children. So, at our house, you'll now find both the carved variety as well as the painted!
